Tim Osborn @ Furtherfield.org

Everbloom Pocket City Pollination:

Kai-Oi Jay Yung Intro 25/03/10:
I came across Tim Osborn through the global guerrilla gardening network Guerrilla Gardening.org, a site set up by Richard Reynolds making a lovematch between the urban and those wildernist protagonists. I was inspired by Tim’s stalwart dedication to make plants grow despite tumultuous cultivation conditions from council resistance to roadworks. Always the bulb opportunist and no condom too ragged for his rubber glove, he carries around his urban activism tools in an orange trolley and clears the land of public detritus ready to furrow and plot. I paired him up with Furtherfield.org, co-founded by Ruth Catlow and Marc Garrett. An art space intersecting social change via tech, net art and community orientated collaborative projects. Ruth and Marc’s hosting a strip of land and welcoming Everbloom… was an extension of this co-creation through a small but significant gesture from this realm of media art ecologies and out into car park.

Tim says “I am gardenless gardener!! I actually came across Guerilla Gardening by pure chance a few years back when i went on a blind date with someone who’s sister did it. The date never ‘blossomed’ into anything but I signed up to GGs & through that I met a woman who volunteered for Age Concern & i subsequently took over the garden she was looking after & that ended up with me taking it on solo & making great friends with an elderly lady who is unable to garden anymore but who is able to teach me! The garden was full of weeds and 2ft grass and I have kind of brought it back to something of it former glory!

I love the idea of random gardening like GG activities because i think –  (1) it livens up the enviroment, (2) its a practical & good use of my own time (3) I am always learning something (4) It allows for some quiet meditation time & generates good Karma. My favorite flowers are wallflowers (tho i am not one anymore!!) and (naturally) pansies!

Furtherfield.org co-founder Ruth Catlow kindly supports Everbloom:

we are really happy to have this event happening in association with Furtherfield as it is exactly the kind of project that we want to support.

We can offer:-
- a strip of mud in our public car park
- access to an overgrown and rubbish strewn back garden
